Rooted in Culture. Raised in Craft.
Where generations of heritage meet expert technique.
My Journey:
My love for hair started when I was just 7 years old, watching my mum braid. She had been an apprentice in one of Manchester’s original Afro-Caribbean salons, where the owner – a true pioneer – was the first woman to fight for the Afro hair curriculum to be added to UK colleges. I’m still proud to call her a friend to this day.
I grew up surrounded by Jamaican stylists who believed in deep conditioning, low heat, and natural care — lessons that shaped how I approach hair now. That’s where I first discovered the power of rollers, steam treatments, and the Dominican blowout technique.
Learning Hands-On — The Real Way
I didn’t learn hair in a textbook — I learnt it in real life. I started with my own head, then practised on family and school friends during lunch breaks. Most of my friends were from North and East African backgrounds, and I made sure to always respect their faith and culture. I’d buy them the right products, give them advice, and help them care for their hair in ways no one else was showing them at the time.
I spent years studying hair care from the greats — Lorraine Massey’s Curly Girl Method, Teri LaFlesh’s Tightly Curly approach, Curlista, Long Hair Care Forum, and my personal favourite: Robin’s Crown and Glory method.
From Passion to Profession
In my late 20s, I turned my passion into a profession. I trained with Connect 2 Hair in hair extensions and later added spray tanning. I also worked in multiple salons, where I gained experience in:
– Basic colour techniques
– Cutting
– Afro-Caribbean styling
– Dreadlocks (which I actually learned from my father as a preschooler)
Over the years, I built a reputation for working with hair textures most stylists avoid. Whether it’s coily, curly, relaxed, or fine European — I know how to care for it, blend it, and bring out its best.
Nya Impressions Today
Nya Impressions is the salon I once dreamed about. A place where people with all hair textures — especially textured, mixed, and Afro hair — feel safe, understood, and walk out feeling like royalty.
Whether you’re getting luxury hair extensions, a Dominican blowout, a curly cut, or a keratin treatment, I bring the same deep respect for culture, technique, and care to every appointment.
